LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) – After this weekends storm, animals were blown from their nests and habitats and that made for a busy Wildlife Rescue Team.
“We started getting calls right away, we had about 50 calls yesterday and we’re still getting some today,” Carrie Nunez, the President of Wildlife Rescue Team. “Now that people are done cleaning up trees in their yard, now they’re looking for wildlife and finding wildlife.”
Wildlife Rescue Team in Lincoln said baby squirrels were the animals mostly thrown from their nests in trees. Birds and Bats were other animals blown from their homes across the state, especially in the Omaha area.
To make sure these animals are taken care of, there is something YOU can do at home.
“If you could just do a walk through of your yard, if you have trees down, just see if there are any nests,” Nunez said. “If you find a nest and there are babies in there, kind of look around in the grass or under bushes and see if you see babies.”
They say as of this year, the storm we saw Friday into Saturday morning was the biggest one yet. Wildlife Rescue Team says they’re ready for more.
If you find a baby animal out of place, you’re encouraged to call for help. For more information on Wildlife Rescue Team, visit their website:
