Thieves steal Texas man’s pickup with World War I artifacts inside

Kansas City police are working to help a Texas man recover World War I artifacts that were stolen, along with his pickup truck from a Kansas City hotel parking lot.Authorities said Robert Visser was traveling from Texas to Minnesota when he stopped in Kansas City.Police said that sometime between 1 a.m. and 9:30 a.m. Wednesday, someone stole Visser’s black 2006 Ford 350 diesel truck from the parking lot of the Hampton Inn at 8551 N. Church Road near Interstate 35 and Missouri 152.Visser said it’s what was inside the pickup that is the real loss.”It contained two World War I aircraft motors for which I have spent the better part of 35 years collecting parts to complete,” Visser told police. “Only a few were manufactured in about 1917-1918 by Wright Martin.”Police said detectives have checked with area scrap dealers and online sales platforms with no luck.Visser said he believes the people who stole the truck had no idea about its contents or their rarity.Police ask anyone who has seen the pickup truck with Texas plates BH69369 or the airplane motors to call the TIPS Hotline at 816-474-8477.
