Searches to be conducted at Correctional Center following altercation

Several punches thrown and windows broken Thursday morning during a fight between inmates

LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) – Searches are planned after an altercation between multiple inmates Thursday morning at the Lincoln Correctional Center (LCC).

Three inmates were sent to the hospital to be medically evaluated. One was treated for serious injuries to his face.

Eleven inmates have been identified for their involvement.

Shortly before 10:30 a.m., several inmates began throwing punches at each other in one of the housing units.

Shortly after, inmates from an adjacent unit used a table to break out two windows, including a window leading to the unit where the initial fight was taking place.

Inmates from the second housing unit began fighting inmates from the first unit.

Staff broke up the altercations by deploying the chemical, oleoresin capsicum, to gain compliance.

This led to the LCC being on lockdown for several hours. LCC will remain on modified operations throughout the weekend so staff can conduct searches in the housing units where the altercation occurred.

Inmate visits will be canceled during that time.

Results of the search will be provided to the county attorney to determine the charges.
