LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) — Gov. Pete Ricketts on Friday issued a statement following a vote by state senators on a property tax bill.

LB 408, which would cap Nebraska property tax increases at 3% stalled in the Legislature Thursday, falling four votes short of the 33 needed to end a filibuster.

“Thank you to the bipartisan group of 29 senators who voted to advance property tax relief last night,” Ricketts said.  “These 29 senators stood with the people of Nebraska who have been crying out for relief.”

Ricketts meanwhile blasted the other senators who voted against the measure.

“They are the roadblock that stands between getting the people of Nebraska the property tax relief they desperately need,” he said. “If the Legislature does not address this critical priority in the immediate future, it becomes more and more likely that the people of Nebraska will do away with the property tax system altogether.”
