Crews from Kirberg Company worked on a cleanup of the Centenary Church of St. Louis after an overnight storm took off the building’s steeple on Saturday, July 10, 2021, in Downtown.
The workers will place plastic over the exposed area of the steeple once the debris has been removed, “In order to mitigate water damage and prevent a collapse”, said Adam Gwaltney of Kirberg Company.
The metal crucifix that was added to the top of the church’s steeple in 1998 was recovered.
The church will still be holding services on Sunday, July 11, 2021, at 11 a.m. “Everyone’s welcome”, said Pastor Kathlean Wilder. Wilder has been a member of the church since 1988 and has been the pastor since 2007. “This church is the one that supported me into my call to ministry, so it’s kind of a God thing that I got to come back and be the pastor”.
