LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) — It’s a trip Jeff Fortenberry is unlikely to forget.
Fortenberry, who represents Nebraska’s First Congressional District in the United States House of Representatives, was part of a delegation that traveled to Haiti to attend the funeral of the country’s assassinated president Jovenel Moïse earlier this month.
During the funeral, gunfire rang out and forced Fortenberry and the delegation to evacuate.
All members of the delegation returned home safely.
Fortenberry shared the story for the first time publicly with Channel 8.
