No-show St. Louis prosecutors trigger dismissal of 2020 murder case | Law and order

A spokeswoman for the office could not immediately be reached.

Campbell was charged in December with fatally shooting 30-year-old Randy Moore on April 9, 2020, in the 3700 block of Aldine Avenue.  Moore, who lived in the 11000 block of Bellefontaine Road in north St. Louis County, was pronounced dead at a hospital. Charges said surveillance video showed Campbell arrive in a Chrysler 300, have an argument with Moore before shooting Moore as Moore walked away.

The judge said Campbell’s public defender filed a motion on May 17 to compel the Circuit Attorney’s Office to produce evidence “for willful violations of the rules of discovery.” At that time, the prosecutor who had Campbell’s case had begun maternity leave and no one else from the Circuit Attorney’s Office had been assigned to it.

No one from the Circuit Attorney’s Office showed up for hearings on May 27, June 15 and the office missed a June 23 deadline to turn over evidence to Campbell’s defense lawyer, Sengheiser’s order said. Campbell’s lawyer moved to dismiss the case June 30 and scheduled a hearing for Monday but again no prosecutor showed despite the court’s confirming that the Circuit Attorney’s Office received notice of the hearing six days before.
