LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) – Governor Ricketts announced the end is near for Nebraska’s State of Emergency. The emergency was initially brought on by COVID-19 back in March of last year but will end this week.
He says because COVID-19 hospitalizations are so low in the state, it’s time to get back to normal.
“All of it was designed to be able to slow the spread of the virus and make sure we preserved our hospital capacity and we have done that very successfully,” Ricketts said. “Now at 27 hospitalizations, we’re well below one percent of our hospital beds are being used with coronavirus patients, so that’s all very good news.”
The emergency was originally declared on March 13th of last year and will end at 11:59 p.m. this Wednesday. Almost all other executive orders will be expiring 30 days after that.
There are three executive orders that will be extended. The Telehealth executive order will be extended until the end of August, and two other bills that deal with the Department of Labor.
Also, Test Nebraska will be ending. Ricketts said the last day you will be able to get a COVID-19 test through Test Nebraksa will be July 18th. He say there are many other spots around town that you will still be able to get a COVID test, like pharamcies and clinics.
