LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) — Bill Moos will soon be leaving the Husker community, according to the Nebraska Husker’s Twitter account.

He is reportedly retiring from the position, effective June 30.
According to a press release from Nebraska Athletics, Moos said, “I step away completely content, knowing that our athletic program is reborn and rebuilt and that it has a solid, stable foundation.”
He was not seen at the university’s regents meeting Friday morning.
University Chancellor Ronnie Green said they will be launching a national search “very soon” to replace Moos. In the meantime, Sr. Deputy AD for External Relations Garrett Klassy will serve as Interim AD.
Green released the following statement concerning Moos’ retirement:
“I respect Bill Moos’ decision to retire and I want to thank him for his service to Husker Athletics and our university. Under his tenure, Nebraska has gained tremendous talent with outstanding new coaches and senior administrators I particularly appreciate his steady and capable leadership during the challenges posed by the COVID-19 pandemic… I know that Husker Nation will join me in wishing Bill and Kendra all the very best in retirement. I hope they greatly enjoy the additional time with family this will bring.”

Moos gave no indication he was looking to retire when Channel 8’s Andrew Ward sat down with him last week.

He was first hired in October of 2017 and led the hiring process for coaches Scott Frost, Fred Hoiberg, and Will Bolt.
Moos, 70, has previously said he planned to stay with Nebraska at least until the end of his contract in December of 2022.
