Suspect, two officers in hospital
LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) – Three people were taken to the hospital after a man barricaded himself in an apartment and set it on fire, according to the Lancaster County Sheriff’s Office.
Officers went to serve a warrant to Deonta Hopper, 39, at 4800 N 17th Street in Lincoln. Police say he barricaded himself in the apartment and then set it on fire.
First responders forced entry when they saw smoke, a struggle ensued and Hopper was tased.
He was taken to the hospital for smoke inhalation and at the last update was in critical condition. Two officers were also taken to the hospital for precautionary reasons from smoke inhalation.
The cause of the fire is still under investigation. Lincoln Police, Lancaster County Sheriff’s Office, and US Marshalls were all called to the scene.
