LPD: Man arrested after taking car with 2 boys inside

Lincoln police say two 12-year-old boys were inside a Chevy Malibu that was taken from the area of 14th and Superior St. on Sunday.

LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) — A man was arrested after allegedly stealing a car with two boys inside.

Lincoln police say two 12-year-old boys were inside a Chevy Malibu that was taken from the area of 14th and Superior St. on Sunday.

The boys told officers they had the keys and were getting things out of the car and listening to music when the suspect – identified by police as 32-year-old Anthony Grandall – came up to them and asked to drive the vehicle.

The boys said no and Grandall got inside the car and drove off, police said.

Despite pleas from the children to stop, police say Grandall continued to drive for about 20 minutes to a grocery store in the area before returning to where the car had been parked.

Police say Grandall never threatened the boys, and his motivation for taking the car is unknown.

Grandall, who police say is a transient, was arrested on two counts of child abuse and unauthorized use of a propelled device.
