LPD: 2 men assaulted by group of men

2 men were reportedly assaulted on 2 separate occasions by a group of men

LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN)- On Thursday just before 9 a.m., Lincoln police reported being called to north 25th street on the report of an assault.

Officers reported talking to the victim, a 53-year-old man who told them he had been assaulted by a man earlier that morning during a social gathering. The victim reportedly told police that as the man left the gathering, he threatened to come back and assault him later.

Police say this morning the man and two other men came to the victim’s apartment and began assaulting the victim and another 51-year-old man, who was a guest at the victim’s home. According to police, the assailants caused injuries to the mens’ heads, arms, and legs.

Then, police say the victim told them one of the other assailants took out a handgun and pointed it at the victims before fleeing the area before officers arrived. The victim also reportedly told police that the man with the handgun was wearing an ankle monitor.

Officers say they followed up with a parole officer who indicated to them that Brian Hassenplug, who was on parole with an ankle monitor, was at the location of the assault at the time it occurred.

From there, officers reported determining that Hassenplug was in fact the person who threatened the victims with a handgun and found him at his residence on “R” street at 2 p.m. on July 15.

Hassenplug was taken into custody and arrested for Use of a Deadly Weapon to Commit a Felony and Terroristic Threats.  The handgun has reportedly not been located yet and the investigation is ongoing.
