Meet Kristina Hill, co-owner/operator of HomeShield Roofing & Exteriors, LLC.
Tell us a little about your business. – HomeShield Roofing & Exteriors (www.homeshieldroofingandexteriors.com) was started in 2017 and is run by my husband Matt, and myself. We do residential and commercial, roofing, siding, window, gutters, and stone projects.
How did you get started in the business? – When HomeShield first opened, my husband was full time and I was working a full-time corporate job, plus assisting as I could on the back end. Our company got to the point where we needed a second full-time person, so here I am! I never dreamed I’d be in the roofing/exteriors industry, but I’m truly loving operating and growing the business. It’s been exciting to see how much we have grown in that short amount of time.
What is the biggest challenge you’ve faced professionally? – I’d have to say it was jumping head first into this industry! My background was heavily focused on business development, so I was able to take over that side of my business seamlessly, but the roofing world was all new to me. I just had to jump in and start doing things myself, asking lots of questions along the way. Now, I’m helping mentor other ladies who are just getting started in this industry.
What has been your most important achievement professionally? – Being asked to speak about running a residential roofing company to ladies from around the nation at the National Women in Roofing Conference this month.
Tell us a little about your family. – Matt and I are a blended family with three kids: Chase (20), Autumn (17), and Atley (10). One of these days I’ll talk them into letting me have an office dog to add to our family.
What do you see as one of the biggest turning points in your life? – I had my daughter at a young age and was a single parent. There were times I was working three jobs to make ends meet and to provide a life for my little family that I was proud of. Those early years were extremely difficult but taught me more about myself and my character than anything else.
What is your favorite thing to do on a day off? – Spending time with my family at the lake or just being outdoors.
What is the most unique or interesting thing about you that most people probably don’t know? – In 2010, I was the Miss Teen of South Dakota!
Who inspires you? – My husband. Corny, right? But it’s true. He’s a saint. I might be biased, but he’s one of the best in the industry. I’m blessed to have learned a good majority of what I know from him.
What is your favorite quote or the best piece of advice you’ve ever received? – “Your smile is your business logo, your personality is your business card, and how you leave others after an experience with you becomes your trademark.” – Jay Danzie
What local nonprofit organization(s) are you passionate about or involved with, and are there any special reasons why? – I actually co-founded a local nonprofit called Hope for the Voiceless. Our mission is to combat child sex trafficking right here in the Lincoln community. Ultimately, our big-picture goal is to have a long-term safe home for children who have been impacted by sex trafficking.
What is your favorite TV show? – The Office, no questions asked. It would probably be an understatement to say that I’ve watched every episode 20 times.
