Many of you have asked about COVID-19 while enrolling your students this week. The Reopening KCPS website has been updated with resources for the 2021-22 school year. This includes a new family handbook, a new staff handbook and a helpful one-sheet with most of what you need to know. We are committed to following the science and public health guidelines to protect our KCPS community.
Our goal is to keep schools open this year. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, vaccination is the leading public health strategy to end the pandemic. Millions of people have now received COVID-19 vaccines, which are safe and effective. On Monday, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration gave the COVID-19 vaccine manufactured by Pfizer-BioNTech full approval. If you have not been vaccinated already, please make an appointment with the Kansas City Health Department as soon as possible.
Please do not send your child to school if they have a fever or are experiencing chills, cough, shortness of breath, fatigue, body aches, headache, new loss of taste or smell, sore throat, congestion, runny nose, nausea, vomiting or diarrhea, or if anyone in your household has tested positive for COVID-19. If you need help getting a COVID-19 test for your child, please contact your school nurse. Together, we can keep our KCPS community healthy this year.
