KANSAS CITY, Mo. — UPDATE, May 21 | Officers were able to take the suspect into custody without incident around 3:15 a.m. Friday.
KCPD said the suspect had a non-life-threatening gunshot wound and was taken to a hospital.
ORIGINAL STORY, May 20 | Kansas City, Missouri, police are trying to get an armed man to put down his guns and come out of a KCMO house.
The incident began just before 9 p.m. Thursday when police were sent to a house in the 9800 block of North Cherry Street.
Officers were checking on a report of a man and woman fighting at the house.
The woman managed to get out safely.
Police say officers could see the suspect inside with a rifle.
While officers were setting up a perimeter, the suspect was threatening to shoot people.
Police say the suspect then fired shots at officers and officers returned fire.
No officers were injured.
Police say they are in communication with the suspect, and it is unknown if he has been injured.
Negotiators are actively talking with him in an attempt to get him to surrender.
No other injuries have been reported.
