A LARGE FIRE IN AN INDUSTRIAL BUILDING IS KEEPING FIRE CREWS BUSY THIS MORNING AND COULD IMPACT YOUR DRIVE. THESE ARE LIVE PICTURES FROM THE LEEDS INDUSTRIAL BUILDING ON 39 STHTREET, CLOSE TO THE- STADIUMS.ET, CLOSE TO THE- THAT PART OF 39TH STREET IS CLOSED DOWN RIGHT NOW. VIDEO FROM OVERNIGHT SOWS THE FLAMES FROM THE SOUTH SIDEF THE BUILDING, YOU CAN KIND OF SEE IT IN THE NIGHT SKY. SECURITY STAFF TELLS US AT WORKERS WERE INSIDE THE BUILDGIN AT THE TIME, BUT THEY DID MAKE IT OUT SAFELY. FIRE CREWS QUICKLY SWITCHED DEFENSIVE MODE, JUST TRYING TO KEEP THE FLAMES FROM SPREADING. IF YOU STEPPED OUTSIDEARLY E THIS MORNGNI, YOU COULD SEE THE SIGNS TOFHE FE.IR FROM OUR CITY CA YM,OU CAN SEE A LARGE PLUME OF SMOKE. NO ONEAS W HURT IN THE FIRE. CREWS ARE STILL WORKING TO CONTROL THE FLAMES. NICK, YOU MENTIONED THE SMOKE MIGHT STICK AROUND BECAUSE OF THE WEATHER. CKNI TEMPERATURES ARE WARMING AS YOU GO UP INSTEAD OF COOLING. The Kansas City Fire Department is battling a large fire at an industrial park on the city’s East side.The fire started around 1:15 a.m. at Leeds Industrial Leasing on East 39th street, near Raytown Road and Stadium Drive.Leeds employees tell KMBC there were a few workers in the building at the time. They managed to get out safely.Firefighters said the fire is located in the south side of the building. A smoke plume can be seen stretching for miles.There is no word on a cause at this time.The building was the longtime home of the General Motors Leeds Assembly Plant, before its closure in 1988.

The Kansas City Fire Department is battling a large fire at an industrial park on the city’s East side.

The fire started around 1:15 a.m. at Leeds Industrial Leasing on East 39th street, near Raytown Road and Stadium Drive.

Leeds employees tell KMBC there were a few workers in the building at the time. They managed to get out safely.

Firefighters said the fire is located in the south side of the building.
