University of Kansas Health System daily update

The University of Kansas Health System is treating 32 patients with acute COVID-19 infections and 36 patients in the recovery phase with eight patients in the ICU and five on ventilators.

The doctors spent a lot of time with Dr. Jamie Wagner, chief of the division of breast surgical oncology, and Dr. Onalisa Winblad, division director of breast imaging in the radiology department, talking about a side effect of the COVID-19 vaccine found in breast cancer patients.

Some patients have seen benign enlarged lymph nodes when receiving mammograms after getting a COVID-19 vaccine. It does not affect the doctors’ ability to find actual breast cancer tumors, though.

Cerner headquarters among COVID-19 mass vaccination sites in Week 4

Cerner’s North Kansas City headquarters will be a mass vaccination site this week for qualified residents who sign up. Residents who received a first COVID-19 dose at the State Fairgrounds in Sedalia can also return this week for their second dose.
