Jefferson City’s January 2021 restaurant inspections – Jefferson City News Tribune

Jefferson City’s food code requires food-service establishments to be inspected at least once every six months.

Priority violations are items, if in non-compliance, that are more likely to contribute to food contamination, illness or an environmental health hazard. Some examples of priority items include improper holding temperatures of foods, inadequate cooking of food items, poor personal hygiene and contaminated equipment.

Examples of core items include cleaning and maintenance of floors, walls and ceilings; open waste receptacles; unshielded light bulbs in food-preparation areas; and missing thermometers in refrigeration units for monitoring temperature.

The food code typically requires establishments to correct priority violations at the time of inspection when possible, or within a longer time frame not to exceed 10 days agreed upon with the regulatory authority. Establishments are required to correct core violations by a date agreed to with the regulatory authority not to exceed 90 days from the time of inspection.

January 2021 inspections noted:

Sonic Drive-In, 1711 E. Elm St., one core violation: debris in drink station area (corrected on site).

Bones Restaurant & Lounge, 210 E. Commercial Way, three core violations: walk-in cooler shelving rusty and hard to clean; need to wipe down kitchen shelving and corners; some chipping of kitchen flooring.

Central Dairy Fountain, 210 Madison St., one priority violation: customers self-serve cooler above 41 degrees F (corrected on site).

Domino’s Pizza, 1717 Christy Drive, one priority violation: cold holding unit not at proper temperature.

• Follow-up inspection — no violations.

Revel Catering & Event Center, 102 E. High St. Suite 200, no violations.

Little Caesars Pizza, 2407 Missouri Blvd., three core violations: disposable paper towels not present in dispenser in employee bathroom; debris accumulation on front glass window ledge and inside light covers in front lobby; food debris on wall under three-compartment sink and on back wall by door.

Lutz’s Famous BBQ, two core violations: prep cooler temperature elevated (corrected on site); single-service cups on floor by hand sink.

Madison’s Cafe, 216 Madison St., two core violations: one light fixture burned out in kitchen, missing light shield on one fixture; broken or missing coved base tile in dish room and kitchen, floor damage and uneven spots under fryers.

McDonald’s, 1918 Jefferson St., one priority violation: items did not have proper date label (corrected on site0 — and two core violations: debris on equipment; items stored on floor in storage (corrected on site).

Mel’s Country Cafe, 2421 Industrial Drive, three core violations: floor behind griddles and under equipment soiled with food debris; several floor tiles worn through at dish station; several locations in newer cold kitchen and salad prep area have open penetrations that should be sealed.

Perkins Restaurant & Bakery, 1722 Jefferson St., five core violations: ice cream dipper well non-functional, no water flow; floors in store room and on cook line have some food debris and trash under equipment; several light fixtures in kitchen unshielded; walls around mop sink deteriorating and some kitchen walls separating from wall board; ice cream dipping well lid sill broken.

Steak ‘N Shake, 2519 Missouri Blvd., two priority violations: kitchen shake mixers and servers shake mixers soiled with food residues (corrected on site); milk, creamers and other foods stored above in servers expo table cooler above 41 degrees F (corrected on site) — and six core violations: non-food-contact items dirty, kitchen drive-by dress table interior and gaskets, cook line equipment, walk-in cooler shelving, servers ice cream fountain; burger table above 41 degrees F (using ice to keep burgers and cheese at 41 degrees F or below); floor tile missing or broken at back door and walk-in freezer entrance; floors dirty under shelving in walk-in cooler with food debris; walls in kitchen and restrooms missing coved base tiles and kitchen/dish room walls show separation and buckling due to possible water damage; dirty kitchen ceiling tiles due to dust and food debris.

Veit’s Pub & Grill, 2314 Lorenzo Greene Drive, two core violations: need to clean up food debris from under salad station coolers and under fryers; several hood filters missing, broken or installed improperly.

Schnucks — Produce, 1801 Missouri Blvd., no violations.

Schnucks — Seafood, 1801 Missouri Blvd., no violations.

Schulte’s Fresh Foods — Bakery, 1904 Southwest Blvd., three core violations: employee with unrestrained beard; several utensil storage bins with food crumbs inside; walk-in cooler floor tile broken, loose or missing at entrance, pitting of bakery floor present near proofers and floor mixer.

Schulte’s Fresh Foods — Meat/Seafood, 1904 Southwest Blvd., one core violation: walls in cut room bulging and separating.

AFC, 1801 Missouri Blvd., no violations.

Salvation Army Center, 900 Jefferson St., two core violations: dust on kitchen ceiling by vents; base coving coming loose from wall under drain boards by dishwasher.

ABB Cafeteria, 500 W. Missouri 94, two core violations: kitchen ceiling tiles have dust residue; walk-in cooler shelving edges have food debris buildup.

Domenico’s Italian Restaurant, 3702 W. Truman Blvd., one core violation: quarry tile fallen off on entrance to walk-in cooler, some kitchen ceiling tiles soiled with food residue.

Sam’s Club No. 6505 — Deli, 849 Stoneridge Parkway, no violations.

Sam’s Club No. 6505 — Rotisserie Chicken, 849 Stoneridge Parkway, no violations.

Sodexo @ SSM Health — St. Mary’s Hospital, 2505 Mission Drive, one core violation: soda fountain had debris present (corrected on site).

JQ’s on High, 911 E. High St., no violations.

Theo’s Midtown, 620 W. McCarty St., one core violation: wall and ceiling of beer walk-in cooler soiled with food spill.

J Vietnamese Cafe, 1406 Missouri Blvd., two priority violations: no sanitizer in dishwasher at time of inspection; chemical not stored in correct area (corrected on site).

Scooters Coffee, 2245 Missouri Blvd., one priority violation: chemical spray bottles stored next to/above single-service items at service line (corrected on site).

Burger King, 521 Missouri Blvd., three core violations: debris on floors in walk-in cooler (corrected on site); debris in reach-in freezer; equipment with debris present.

On the Hook Fish and Chips, 2304 Missouri Blvd., no violations.
