Iowa’s COVID-19 cases were up 1% over the past week, matching the nation’s increase, the Washington Post reported.
Iowa ranked 23rd among the states in per capita cases, according to the Post.
The New York Times, whose database includes probable COVID-19 cases along with confirmed ones, reported a 21% jump in Iowa’s daily cases over the past two weeks.
Iowa logged 728 new cases on Tuesday, higher than the seven-day average of 543, the Times reported. The number of COVID-19 patients in hospitals stood at 222, up from the seven-day average of 214. The 13 deaths Tuesday compared with a daily average of 15 over the past week.
Nationally, the Post reported cases were up 0.8% in the past week, while hospitalizations rose 0.4%. By the Post’s count, Iowa cases were up 1.3% and hospitalizations rose 3.3%.
Iowa’s test positivity rate was 6.8% over the past week, compared with the national figure of 5.3%, the Post reported.
Since the pandemic started, 383,508 Iowans have tested positive for the coronavirus, and 5,836 have died, the Iowa Department of Public Health reported.
The state reported two outbreaks at nursing homes, with 20 cases among residents and staff members. Since the pandemic began, 2,282 Iowa nursing home residents have died of COVID-19.
