SIOUX CITY (KTIV) (UPDATE at 9:09 p.m.) – Traffic has reopened on Highway 20 eastbound following a vehicle fire Monday night, according to Iowa 511.

Authorities say around 6 p.m. Monday a truck hauling hay was traveling from Ponca, Nebraska, to Kingsley, Iowa, when the driver noticed the hay was on fire.

Highway 20 eastbound was closed while several local fire departments worked to put the fire out, and clear out the smoke.

SIOUX CITY (KTIV) – A portion of Highway 20 eastbound is blocked due to a vehicle fire.

Iowa 511 says the affected area is located east of Sioux City, near Buchanan Avenue. The eastbound lanes are blocked between Exit 4: IA12; US 75; Gordon Drive and County Road K42. Also blocked is the left lane of westbound Highway 20.

It is recommended to find an alternate route if you are planning to travel in this area.

Iowa DOT cameras in the area showed a large amount of smoke coming from the fire.

This is a Developing Story. We’ll have more information as it becomes available.
