Heating up and drought conditions improving for Nebraska

May 20, 2021 6:49 pm

Another cloudy day across much of southeast Nebraska.  Also, warmer, and humid – with dew points in the lower and middle 60°s.

We’ll keep a chance for showers and thunderstorms in the area, especially east of Grand Island and Hasting, through the rest of Thursday evening.  As we go through the overnight, the overall coverage of rain will decrease, and there will just be a chance for an isolated shower.

Dma Tonight Low

Under mostly cloudy skies, temperatures will drop to the lower and middle 60°s.  You’ll probably want to keep your windows closed, and turn the air conditioner, as it will remain humid.

Dma Tomorrow High

Clouds should decrease through the morning, becoming partly cloudy by afternoon.  As long as we get a bit more sunshine reaching the ground, temperatures should manage to climb in to the lower 80°s.

As the atmosphere cooks, we may pop an isolated shower or thunderstorm late afternoon and in to the evening.

DROUGHT CONDITIONS IMPROVING

The latest U.S. Drought Monitor was released today and it shows Nebraska’s drought conditions are greatly improving.

Drought State

Rains over the last week have helped the Cornhusker State.  An additional 14% of the state has been removed from “Abnormally Dry” conditions to no longer being categorized as having drought conditions.  Areas of “Severe” drought conditions dropped by 28%.
