State advises swimmers and campers to steer clear
LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) – The state has issued a health warning at Wirth Brothers Lake (Site 27) in Johnson County. The lake was found to contain Harmful Algal Blooms (HAB), also known as toxic blue-green algae.
Kirkman’s Cove Lake in Richardson County and Pawnee Lake in Lancaster County have been removed from the health alert. Calamus Reservoir in Loup County and Iron Horse Trail Lake in Pawnee County remain on health alert.
Signs are posted to caution the public and designated beaches are closed while the alert is in effect.
Recreational boating and fishing are permitted but the public is advised to use caution and avoid exposure to the water.
