LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) – The Food Bank of Lincoln is raising its response to hunger with a capital campaign focused on hunger solutions.
Construction is underway at the new site in Lincoln, located at 1221 Kingbird Road. The new facility will enable staff to connect more people to more meals, increase access to healthy food and shorten lines through education and community stability.
Food distributions are held Monday-Saturday
• These distributions are open to all. No paperwork or documentation is needed to attend.
• Food distribution schedules are available at lincolnfoodbank.org.
There have been some recent changes to the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP). It’s a federal program that helps individuals and
families buy the food they need. Benefits are put on an EBT card that can be used to purchase groceries.
• In May, the Nebraska State Legislature passed LB 108, which raised the gross income limit for SNAP eligibility to 165 percent of the federal poverty line—a 35 percent increase. For example: The income limit for a household of four increased from $2,839 to $3,603.
• Because of this change, nearly 3,500 additional households in Nebraska will be eligible for SNAP.
• The Department of Health and Human Services will begin processing applications with this change on Monday, July 12.

The Economics of SNAP:
• SNAP benefits are funded by the federal government. Nebraska pays about half of the administrative costs of SNAP; however, the administrative costs associated with LB 108 are covered entirely by the federal American Rescue Plan.
• Every $1 in SNAP benefits spent creates an average of $1.70 in economic impact.
