‘Do not travel’ | St. Louisans urged to stay off the roads due to ‘deteriorating’ conditions – KSDK.com

February 15, 2021 by LPP Reporter

ST. LOUIS — As snow continues to fall in the St. Louis area Monday afternoon, St. Louisans are being urged to stay off the roads.

“Please do not travel! EXTREME cold, more snow, and high winds are making for hazardous travel conditions,” Missouri State Highway Patrol tweeted Monday morning.

The National Weather Service in St. Louis is also warning residents to stay home as road conditions continue to deteriorate.

“Snow falling onto sub-freezing roads is making roads very slick and more snow is on its way today. Keep yourself, your neighbors, and emergency workers safe by STAYING HOME,” the National Weather Service wrote on Facebook Monday morning.

And the Missouri Department of Transportation also put out a warning to residents, particularly in east and southeast Missouri.

“ALERT: DO NOT TRAVEL in east and southeast Missouri during these ongoing conditions this afternoon and evening, particularly between St. Louis and the bootheel,” MoDOT tweeted Monday afternoon.

A winter storm warning continues across our area with areas of heavy snowfall. One to two inch-per-hour rates are spreading across the St. Louis area and points east and south.

Our heaviest snow will be Monday afternoon in the metro area before pushing to the northeast Monday evening. Additional light snow will continue into Monday evening before tapering to flurries by midnight.
