Capital Humane Society asking for help with over 300 animals in the shelter

From kittens, to dogs, to even critters, the Capital Humane Society has hundreds of animals looking for their perfect home.

LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) – From kittens, to dogs, to even critters, the Capital Humane Society has hundreds of animals looking for their perfect home.

“From last year, I think we are, from May to today, we are about 60 more,” Shannon Martin-Roebuck, the Executive Director, said.

Almost every kennel at the shelter is filled with a furry friend. They put out a post on Facebook just a few days ago asking for help due to the fact they had over 300 animals in their care. From foster applications to a pile of donations outside their door, the community stepped up.

“Getting those adoption appointments scheduled, we’re booked right now through Friday. So, that is awesome. We’ve had all kinds of donations, Amazon’s been making lots of deliveries from our wish-list,” Martin-Roebuck said.

She said the influx of animals is generally common for this time of year just due to cats gestational period. The shelter overall is just looking for help as they also work through construction at their Park Boulevard location.

“I think some of our kennels there are damaged, and we’re not able to house all the animals we normally would be able to. So, we’re really relying on our renovation there to help us get through and be able to have a better facility for the animals and for our customers,”

While they are booked up through the week with adoption appointments, little things like blankets, dog beds, and cleaning supplies have been going a long way.
