LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) — Many are grieving the loss of DeAnna Athey, who after days in the hospital, she lost her battle with COVID-19.
34 years old, that’s the age of DeAnna Athey who battled COVID-19. She died just after a week of suffering.
People in Aurora made a Facebook page to grieve and speak well of her.
Deanna’s brother describes her as a funny person who loved to make people laugh.
“For me, it’s going to be hard,” said Mike Athey, her brother. “I’m going to miss her laugh and her sarcastic jokes.”
Her best friend Rikki Koperski says Athey loved to work at the local McDonalds and people will miss the way she made them smile.
“Oh she loved it,” said Koperski. “She would always, every time you would go through the drive-through, she’d always make something up or pick on you or call you a name.”
Mike adds the family is heartbroken as no one can take her place for how she brought them all together.
“It took years off of her life that we all would have enjoyed and would have loved to have with her,” said Mike. “It hurts losing a loved one to it knowing very well, this whole thing could have been avoided.”
Rikki says to take covid seriously.
“She was even fully vaccinated when she passed away but I would still go and get the vaccine,” said Koperski.
DeAnna’s mother spoke to me on the phone saying COVID-19 is ugly, it’s fast and it is real.
