The 6th annual Charlie Wilson House golf tournament went off without a hitch Sunday morning.
LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) – Dozens of golfers teed up Sunday morning, all for Charlie Wilson. A Lincoln man, you may have heard about before.
It’s become a tradition, a day of golf full of family and friends, all there for one in particular host, 36-year-old Charlie Wilson who has Cerebral Palsy. He was diagnosed with the disease about nine months after he was born.
But just because he needs some help with everyday tasks, Wilson was determined to live on his own after graduating high school. And that’s where mom stepped in, one pie at a time.
Wilson’s mother, Patty Wilson, started baking pies and selling them, sharing Charlie’s story. Eventually word spread and donations came pouring in and that’s how Charlie Wilson House was created back in 2008. A home where young men with similar disabilities can live with more independence.
Since the start of Charlie Wilson House, a golf tournament in his name has been played almost every year since to raise funds for the home. Dozens of friends and family showed up this year for the sixth annual Charlie Wilson Tournament at Fairways of Lincoln to shoot off on the green and raise money. All in the name of Charlie.
Patty Wilson hopes there will be many more tournaments in the future.
